![]() Unit ran fine and heated well until one day it would not turn over. I have an older heat pump, aerotemp tempro 2000. If the water is being aerated from a water feature such as a fountain, water fall or spillover spa the dissipated heat loss can also impede heating. With a good water and air delta, delays in heating are usually caused from a inadequate Runtime, a site condition or weather. Higher flowrates will decrease the water delta. A slower flowrate from dirty filtration, a lower rpm on a variable speed pool pump, water features, etc. The pool circulation pump and filtration impact the water delta. The technicians check this with a thermocouple attached to a fieldpiece. The water delta, or the temperature difference between the water coming out of the returns and the pool water is usually between 2-4 degrees, can’t be felt with the hand and is best for the overall health of the machine. ![]() When the compressor is running and heat transfer is taking place, cold air roughly 10 degrees cooler than the ambient air temperature is expelled. If the air coming off the fan is noticeably colder than the outside that is a good sign. Feel free to leave a comment below if you have any questions or concerns regarding issues with your heat pump. If these tests yield no results, or if you still feel uncomfortable with your heat pumps performance, you should call your licensed heat pump professional. ![]() Some air-source heat pumps are therefore designed to automatically shut off or activate a defrosting system when air temperatures fall below 50☏ (10☌). This ice can block air inflow and damage the air-source heat pumps internal components. An air-source heat pump can form ice on its evaporator coil if it operates in low air temperatures. Set your desired water temperature above your actual water temperature and check back later to see if your heat pump is operating. Therefore, your heat pump may not operate if your swimming pool temperature is higher than the temperature set on your heat pumps display. Many heat pumps cannot cool a swimming pool, they can only heat it. Check your desired water temperature and your actual water temperature. This by-pass valve, if present, should not be adjusted after the installer has properly set it. This by-pass allows some of the total flow of water to be diverted from flowing through the heat pump and return directly to the pool. Some heat pump installations require a plumbing by-pass in the piping system so as to comply with the heat pumps maximum flow recommendations. Make sure the valves to your heat pump are completely open and your filter and pump basket are clean. Just as a dirty filter and basket can cause your heat pump to run less efficiently (see our article “Why Isn’t My Swimming Pool Heat Pump Heating?“), they can also cause your heat pump to stop altogether. Ensure that your heat pump is getting sufficient water flow.Make sure your breaker has not tripped and that the disconnect switch of your heat pump (located adjacent to your unit, typically on a wall or a post) is turned on. Heat pump owners often forget to perform this simple check and jump right to more tedious ones. Sometimes consumers come to us with a simple problem: my heat pump wont run. In order to address this problem and to help others, we discuss a few tests you can perform on your heat pump before you call your heat pump professional. ![]() $500 will buy enough tablets for 2 years for sure.Consumers often come to us at AquaCal for help with their swimming pool heat pumps because we have manufactured, distributed, and serviced heat pumps for over 30 years. I'm starting to think it wasn't so hard to throw some chlorine tablets in the pool once in awhile. I know this is why the majority of these cells fail and here's the frosting: If you test them on the tester at your local pool store they will test as being good which costs you a lot of time looking for other causes. ![]() So my fellow Canoe trippers we have to shell out $500 for what looks to be a 39 cent item which will go bad in about 2 years. Same thing if you bypass and short them together. You can't cut the 2 wires because the chlorine generator will show "open" and won't start. Its about the size of a nickle, made of some ceramic type material and can shut your whole system down. The sensor is on the wall of the cell itself under a plastic "saddle" on the power cord end. If its bad your whole cell is bad and what a ripoff. I searched and asked and searched again to find the location of the cell sensor on a Hayward T-15 and now I know why it was so hard to find. Warning: This will probably make you feel like Ned Beatty's character in Deliverance too. ![]()
